Blood Drive to Support Church Shooting Victims

joy church shooting mapTragic news struck Likoni last week. On Sunday, March 23, 2014 a deadly shooting took place at the Joy in Jesus Church just a few blocks away from Hatua Likoni’s office. News sources reported that three shooters entered the church from the rear and opened fire on the congregation. Six people were killed and many more were injured.

To support the victims, Hatua Likoni hosted a blood drive in partnership with the Red Cross and with help from the Beach Management Unit, Kwetu Beach Resort, Peace Net, and Amurt.

On Wednesday, March 26, 2014, Hatua Likoni Library Community became a drop-in center for blood donations. Community members and students of all ages came to donate throughout the afternoon giving a total of 25 pints of blood.

We are thankful to everyone who came in this time of

crisis to give blood to help those who suffered this terrible tragedy. We would also like to encourage the community to donate blood every three to four months to ensure that when a disaster or tragedy strikes, our blood banks are full and ready for the patients when they arrive. Donating blood is also good for your health. For more information on donating blood and its benefits please visit http://www.oneblood.org/media/nancys-news/20376-Health-Benefits-of-Donating-Blood.stml

We are planning to have another blood drive this month, on Friday April 18, and will be hosting a blood drive every four months. So if you were not able to make it to this past one, please come donate, all are welcome!
