To date, Hatua Likoni has engaged in two of the only large-scale research projects to be conducted in Likoni. One of Hatua Likoni's main goals is to make its research accessible so that both residents of Likoni and students interested in development issues in Kenya can find a significant database of specific information that has yet to be fully studied and understood. With this information, we hope that we can shed light onto issues in Likoni in a way that has yet to be done. If you have questions about the research or data, please feel free to contact us!
Comprehensive Evaluation of Needs: With the assistance of a consultant, Hatua administered a questionnaire to 900 respondents and carried out focus groups & interviews with local leaders and groups in December 2009. The survey addressed a comprehensive array of topics, including health, sanitation, youth issues, family planning, and education. This survey is the very first formal investigation of needs in the area. The report was written by an external volunteer. Education Survey: In addition, Hatua has also conducted follow-up research to further study education and its barriers in a more in depth way. Data from the survey are currently being analysed and written.
Support for Graduate Studies: In recognizing the importance of education, Hatua Likoni has assisted in research projects with university level students around the world who are studying development issues in Kenya. By working very closely with students, Hatua Likoni has provided guidance and information to young people who seek to contribute to the world's limited knowledge about Likoni.
