One of the best things about volunteering with Hatua is the variety of work you can do. Hatua matches volunteers with organizations working within their field of interest. If your interests lie in education, library services or project management, you can volunteer in Kenya directly with Hatua.

Life in Likoni
Likoni is one of poorest counties in the country. The 175,000 people living here are cut off from the rest of the city by the port entrance, and can only access the rest of the city by ferry. Overcrowded classrooms, high unemployment, and insufficient infrastructure are some of the challenges faced by residents of Likoni.
Hatua’s programs strive to empower youth to overcome those challenges through education. Hatua volunteers help us with the wide variety of projects involved in implementing our programs, and have the opportunity to work with other great community organzations serving children and youth in Likoni.

Our volunteer program starts with a week-long orientation to introduce volunteers to Likoni, Mombasa, the Swahili language and Coastal culture.
During the volunteering period, Hatua will support volunteers in building their experience in their area of expertise. We shall be happy to offer recommendations for outstanding performance!
Our Volunteer Coordinator ensures that our volunteers are healthy, comfortable and feel supported throughout their stay. We can also advise and help arrange any excursions that volunteers may wish to take during their down time.
Looking to stay for longer?
Hatua Likoni seeks highly capable, self-motivated interns able to take a lead role on projects that are critical to the growth of our organization. As an intern, you will gain management experience in international community development. International Interns are paired with local staff to build on one another’s strengths.

Positions are open to people of all nationalities. Depending on the occupancy of our volunteer house, interns may be provided with housing and if our volunteer house is occupied during that period, we advise our interns to arrange accommodation with a family or friend within Mombasa or push back the internship to a time when our volunteer house is vacant.
