In 2006, Peter Kwame and Gabrielle Fondiller carried out a research project on government policies affecting street vendors in Likoni. Realizing the widespread barriers to education in Likoni, by the following year they had founded the Likoni Scholarship Fund and were sponsoring 7 students.
Now in 2017, Hatua Likoni is directly sponsoring 350 students, 170 students in Secondary School and 180 in College and University. Additionally, we have over 20 Alumni who have successfully graduated from our program and have entered Kenya's workforce as educated professionals, ready to contribute to and benifit from Kenya's growing economy. Among other projects, Hatua Likoni also serves the wider community through civic education and managing the community library.
