Hatua Likoni is a community based development organization alleviating poverty, under-education and idleness among children and youth in Likoni, Kenya. Through education, guidance and economic opportunities, Hatua Likoni fosters personal development and self sufficiency among young people while promoting economic development and civil society within Likoni.
Our Programs:
- Twaayf Children's Development Center is a home to orphaned, abandoned and formerly homeless children, providing for their essential needs, including education, medical care, loving family support, and activities that nurture talents and build skills.
- The Likoni Scholarship Fund provides scholarship, mentoring and peer education to Likoni's most gifted students who otherwise lack the means to continue their education past primary school.
- Madaraka Community Nursery School is a high quality, low cost nursery, educating and providing nutritious meals to children from low income families.
- Hatua Likoni Skill Building Events include talent shows, sports tournaments and service projects for youth, paired with peer education activities focused on healthy living.
- Hatua Likoni Local Business Initiatives create jobs for Likoni youth while generating sustainable income to support our social service programs. Our businesses include a poultry farm, a T-shirt line and a hostel for volunteers and tourists. More are in development.
Through our work for children and youth, Hatua Likoni is building our community's capacity to develop itself- by creating a strong and lasting organization able to implement effective programs, by investing in local and sustainable revenue sources, by creating local development expertise among our staff, and by building the capacity of young people to uplift themselves and our community.
