Karibuni! Welcome!
We're glad you're interested in working with us in Kenya.
Hatua Likoni seeks highly motivated interns from around the world ready to gain experience in international community development while helping us run programs that provide new opportunities for youth in Likoni, Mombasa.
Ways to get Involved
* If you wish to volunteer for more than 3 months, please read about Interning at Hatua.

Life in Likoni
Likoni is one of poorest counties in the country. The 160,000 people living here are cut off from the rest of the city by the port entrance, and can only access the rest of the city by ferry. Overcrowded classrooms, high unemployment, and insufficient infrastructure are some of the challenges faced by residents of Likoni. Hatua's programs strive to empower youth to overcome those challenges through education. Hatua volunteers help us with the wide variety of projects involved in implementing our programs, and have the opportunity to work with other great community organzations serving children and youth in Likoni.
By helping to advance Hatua's mission and by work through the challenges faced in developing communities, our staff and volunteers learn new skills, make lasting friendships and develop deep bonds with the children and youth they serve.
Volunteer Accomodation
Hatua Likoni volunteers and interns have the opportunity to be housed at Pungu beach, which is on Shelley Beach, roughly 7km from the Hatua office. The residence is a three bedroom flat complete with two bathrooms, both with shower; the unit also has a kitchenette, a living room and a small outdoor patio. The best features are direct access to the beach and clear, majestic views of the Indian Ocean. The flat at Pungu provides that coastal feel which reminds you that volunteering does not have to be all hard and arduous, and one can also relax during down time. Security at Pungu is exemplary.
